You’re killing me, Smalls is a phrase in the movie The Sandlot in 1993. The movie was directed by David Mickey Evans (who is a film director and screenwriter, born on October 20, 1962) which told a story about a group of baseball players – a very young one and the boy who name is Scotty Smalls who, in the movie, just move to the new neighborhood and everything starts from there with the neighbor kids and baseball game in the 1962 summer.
The movie was stared by stars Tom Guiry, Mike Vitar, Karen Allen, Denis Leary, and James Earl Jones and the neighborhood’s location was in Midvale, Salt Lake City, and Ogden, Utah. Back to the movie storylines, Scotty Smalls was a fifth-grade student in the summer of 1962 when he and his parents moved to San Fernando Valley. In this neighborhood, he tries to make a friend by joining a baseball team of local boys in the local sandlot. However, Scotty Smalls has little experience in the game and get embarrassed due to he is unable to catch or throw the ball probably.
The phrase “You’re killing me, Smalls” was used by Hamilton Ham Porter, the catcher in the baseball team to show his frustration toward Scotty Smalls and this phrase is being used several times during the movie. The first one is when Smalls misunderstand when Ham Porter asks if Scotty Smalls want a s’more and Small asks again “S’ more what?”. Well, when a discussion comes to this part, one does not understand what the other trying to say then it becomes frustrated, same with Ham, he says “You’re killing me, Smalls” and then try to explain what a s’ more is.
Ham uses the phrase again when Smalls offered to chew tobacco.
At the end of the movie, the baseball team members go their own ways, Benny Rodriguez, who back in the time was the best player and also leader of the neighbor baseball team. He then joins the Los Angeles Dodgers team. Scotty Small becomes a sports commentator and one day he covers a game between Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants where Benny Rodriguez and his team win the game.
Following the original movie, there are sequel The Sandlot 2 in 2005, The Sandlot: Heading Home in 2007 and prequel which was announced on July 31, 2018.
